City Of Miami Prepares For Celebration At Orange Bowl When Castro Dies

Talk about morbid. Talk about bad taste. The City of Miami is planning an official celebration at the Orange Bowl to occur when Cuban president Fidel Castro dies.

Discussions by a committee appointed earlier this month by the city to plan the event have even covered issues such as a theme to be printed on T-shirts, what musicians would perform, the cost and how long the celebration would last.

Ramon Saul Sanchez, leader of the Miami-based Democracy Movement, worries about how a party to celebrate a death would be perceived by people outside the Cuban exile community.

I'm so sick to death of the whole anti-Castro byotching.

Ok, I don't like Castro, I woudn't want to live in his little socialist-totalitarian fiefdom but...

The anti-Castro exiles running around in Florida have helped our right-wingnuts along for years for no other reason than they want revenge on Castro for upsetting their applecarts. Boohoo.

If they hadn't been such greedy little piglets keeping all the goodies for about 5% of their population Castro would not have stood a chance.

So they wrecked their own pigsty now they want to come wreck mine. Just about every presidential want-to-be has to pander to these buttmonkeys because of Florida's massive amount of electoral votes. Screw the rest of the country, we gotta win the Cuban exiles.

Cubans don't have a terrific standard of living now. They had an even worse one under the old guard. Keep stomping on all the little guys and what do you expect will happen?

Something I wish the wingnuts here in the US would take a lesson from.

And yeah, I agree having a party to celebrate a death is beyond tasteless. I'll try not to behave that way when Florida finally goes underwater.

Buck,

If the people who actually lived under his regime decide his death is worthy of celebration, it seems presumptuous of you to tell them it's in bad taste, don't you think?

You mean bad taste like what was left in the mouths of Cubans when they try to escape their dictator's iron fist in boats?

Or the bad taste by communist apologetics who defend Castro's regime because his opinion of U.S. Steel corresponds with theirs, and successfully lobbied the U.S. government to implement its ludicrous wet foot policy?

In either regard, a party when Castro dies sounds like a great idea. After all, I know of at least 3 large parites taking place in Alberta after that rat-bastard Trudeau became worm-food.

Feynman, extreme Albertan right wingers are soooo predictable. You sometimes go so over the top ... it is funny to watch.

Ollllie ... civilized people don't rent stadiums, hire musicians, sell TeeShirts and shoot off fireworks when someone dies ... that is so bizare that you would even feel that way. With Fenyman ... sure ... but 'Olaf the civilized' ....

Buck,

civilized people don't rent stadiums, hire musicians, sell TeeShirts and shoot off fireworks when someone dies ... that is so bizare that you would even feel that way

According to you. What about those Iraqi's that cheer in the streets at the death of Americans, who I'm sure you consider their oppressor. Are they uncivilized for being elated for ridding themselves of a tyrant?

All I'm saying is that it's tough for you to judge others civility based on celebrating the death of an oppressor, as you've never had to live under one yourself (unless you count Calvert). If I had to live under someone who killed a family member or a friend, or who forced me to live in poverty, I might be pretty happy to celebrate his death. I don't know, neither do you, thankfully.

Perhaps its the grandeur of renting a stadium that bothers you, what if they just partied in the streets and maybe burned an effigy or two?

ollie said,
"What about those Iraqi's that cheer in the streets at the death of Americans"

(That statement is one of the things I simply hate about right wing thinking - head directly for the lowest common denominator).

"If I had to live under someone who killed a family member or a friend"

(You mean like all the dead Iraqi babies and grandmas because of George Bush?)

Buck,

You didn't respond to any of my points, and seemed to contradict yourself. Why can you take it to the exact same "lowest common denominator" (Iraq), while at the same time scolding me and my right wing cousins for doing so?

How do you not see the direct hypocrisy in telling me what you simply hate about right wing thinking, and subsequently exhibiting the exact same behaviour that solicits the blunt hatred?

Ollie .... I sorta drifted into our other discussion RE: Manning over at your site and Ken's blog.... then I got into sortof a funny video blog from some university students in the PRC and then I made a cup of decaf .... and then I sorta forgot about our discussion over here .... side tracked may be the best way to describe it ....

Buck,

That's fine, it happens. I'm about to watch the Chinese boys anyways. I look forward to it greatly.

What about those Iraqi's that cheer in the streets at the death of Americans, who I'm sure you consider their oppressor. Are they uncivilized for being elated for ridding themselves of a tyrant?

Don't know what Leftdog's answer is but mine is yes. Yes, they are uncivilized for behaving this way. That is exactly what is so disturbing about it, here in the US we have become JUST LIKE THEM.

Look at the last few days: Iraqi "fundamentalists" attempt to bring about "the End of Days". Guess what? We have their Christian counterparts wanting to do the very same thing. Check around and see how many US extremists get deported out of Israel every year for trying to stir the pot.

So here in my country of birth we have become just like some rabid fanatics in the middle east. Yay, I should throw a party. We could behead a few wingnuts and dance around naked in the light of the moon with their heads on pikes.

Oh, and BTW, I HAVE experienced the death of someone who caused the death of someone I loved. I didn't throw a party or feel particularly gleeful. Relieved that they couldn't hurt anyone else was the best I could muster. It's called being civilized.
