When I Say 'Senate' ....

You say .. 'ABOLISH' ....

(well unless you are a Liberal or a Conservative in which case you will likely say something like 'reform' or 'hands off') ....

  1. Buckdog I would agree with you 100% but what would stop Harper from doing crazy things if not the Senate, would we appeal to the GG? There has to be some check on parliament to prevent another Hitler.

  2. Oh yeah, Buckdog, thanks for insulting some people on the left that actually want to actually reform the Senate!

  3. The Canadian Senate is a very poor imitation of the British House of Lords and was modeled on same in 1867. Why not just have a Canadian House of Lords then? Why do we need a Senate? Reform it .. why? Abolish the gawdamned thing.

  4. Indeed, having a Lords would be a vast improvement. Lords are paid no salary as members of the British upper house. Those with ministerial appointments do get the same top up as MPs who are ministers - but without the base salary. Otherwise, the only payment to Lords is an expense allowance for those days they actually turn up to work - and that per diem barely covers the cost of coming down to London.

  5. On the contrary, Malcolm+, they're not elected. Your only concern is monetary. May I remind you that while you oppose any form of payment to anyone in power, people need money to earn a living? Do you endorse slavery? No one would do that much work or that kind of work for free.
