Canada Leads Industrialized World In Marijuana Use
The 2007 World Drug Report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime has found that Canadians use marijuana four times more than any other developed country, with 16.8 per cent of those between the ages of 15 and 64 having used cannabis at least once in 2006.
The world average is 3.8 per cent.

Does this explain the apathy and low voter turnout?
Some U.S. states still have 25 years sentence for pot I suspect people do not answer surveys as openly as Canadians do.
Funny though, if pot is a gateway drug we should have more junkies too, What are those stats?
Most of all this is a missed opportunity to fill gov coffers with lots of sin taxes on pot. We have to treat their cancers from smoking, we should make enough cash to pay for it. We could also put many grow ops out of business, curb gang activity and increase tourism.

..."Canadians use marijuana four times more than any other developed country, with 16.8 per cent of those between the ages of 15 and 64 having used cannabis at least once in 2006"...
Just one more reason I love this country.

The report is available here: LINK
Also, it seems (page 244) that the numbers for Canada are from 2004, not 2006.
For those who are curious, the number for the U.S. (2005) is 12.6% (also much higher than the world average reported at 3.8%) and for the Netherlands, where they sell the stuff in coffe shops all over the place, the number is 6.1% (2001). Which seems to put the lie to the idea that legalization will lead to an increase in use (though I suppose we'd need to know the pre-legalization numbers for the Netherlands to be sure).
