Revenge Of The Prairie Gopher
The Saturday blaze spread rapidly through tinder-dry prairie grasses. Several residents fled their homes as fire crews managed to stop the flames from devouring houses, although some out buildings were lost.

when was this? I went past Calgary the other day and Did not see a fire. what side of the city was this on?

I saw film on the 6:00 news the other night - fire was just by southwest Calgary, if you were on the TransCanada highway, you were too far north ... but there was a lot of smoke.

There was an article on CBC about the deficiency of moisture in the western provinces and how that could have a serious effect on the crops and water supplies.
Meanwhile, in the east, we've got too much moisture and an area south of Lake Simcoe called the Holland Marsh now has too much moisture for crop conditions.
About the only thing that's good from all this is the slight increase in the Great Lakes levels.
