The greatest reaction was in Grant Park, Chicago.
All one needed to see was the broad smiles and exuberance of the mostly young multicultural audience gathered there to celebrate. Even two hours before the official announcement, they were enthusiastic and cheerful; when the announcement was official it was like nothing else since the Kennedy days.
The world was watching and America redeemed itself. It was a long time coming and the culprits of the Bush administration shall not get away with their actions, I hope.
As exciting as Obama's victory is, let's not get too ahead of ourselves. We cannot allow ourselves to judge him any less harshly, breath of fresh air though he may be. He still needs to be held to as high a standard, in fact higher even, if he is truly to be a successful President. So please, enjoy the moment, but do not lose yourselves in it.
