Any chance that conservatives (and Conservatives) had to impose their agenda on the nation died with the financial meltdown. The evidence of that can be seen in how cautiously (and how much like Liberals) the Harper Conservatives have been acting since immediately after the election.
Stephen Harper is now more a Liberal than Jean Chretien or Paul Martin ever were. Ding dong! The witch is dead!

The silver lining of this breakdown is that people are Rethinking the Economy, questioning the system and even having conferences about REMAKING the economy.
The exposures of executive bonuses, wall street follies, and trusted finacial investors such as Madoff are waking up the world to wonder what the heck is going on.
Credit unions and cooperatives and micro endeavors have been immune to the collapse.
Conservatives are definitely pondering what's happenin.

I like your observations Oemissions.
With the collapse of far Left Economies in 1989 (Soviet) and far Right Economies in 2008 (American), perhaps we can now find some balanced social democracy smack dab in the middle ... pulling together the best of what existed in both and eliminating the extremes.
