UPDATE:
Now, in fairness to the men charged, they told the judge at their very first hearing this morning that they all want to plead guilty to the charges. That being the case, I will say that they have now done the right thing. Rather than fines or any kind of more serious sentence, I would like to see them be sentenced to some sort of community service that would assist either Ducks Unlimited, The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation or The Saskatoon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

I have to disagree with you on this one. While I don't say "throw the book at them", their actions are sufficiently egregious to deserve a fairly harsh punishment. Sizable fines (e.g. several thousand dollars) is a good start.

Community service would be an appropriate adjunct to the assorted fines that they no doubt face.
