Liberal / Tory .... same old story .....

"We've turned into one big appointment society. It's a perfect democratic deficit storm."
Sheila Gervais

Former National Director
Liberal Party of Canada
Former top Liberal official blasts party's lack of democracy

"Mr. Cauchon was the Chrétien-era justice minister who spearheaded legislation to legalize same-sex marriage and decriminalize marijuana. He is something of a symbol for progressive Liberals who believe their stance on social justice issues is one of the few things that distinguishes their party from Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservatives."
Joan Bryden

Yup ... got that right!! You don't need much else to see that Iggy is determined to move the Liberal Party to the 'Right' end of the political spectrum. What's most surprising, however, is the sheer number of so called 'progressive' lib bloggers who are marching in lock step with him ... just like lemmings.

Progressive Bloggers

Correct me if I'm wrong, Dawg, but aren't most Canadian progressives NDP?

By and large. There is a segment of the Liberal Party of Canada that traditionally has been quite progressive. When the Libs allow the progressives to have a voice in policy development, they generally get the nod of approval from the Canadian public to form a government.

Historically, when the Liberals try to out 'conservative' the Conservatives, Canadians generally go for the real thing.

The Liberals have made a legacy of implementing into existence, policies of the New Demcoratic Party such as single payer public health care, old age pensions, unemployment insurance, etc etc.

The fact that Canadians caught the Liberals in some very questionable use of public funds for their own partisan advertising purposes lost them government. Liberals, by and large, still haven't put 2 and 2 together to understand why Canadians are still NOT ready to embrace them.

No outright apology was ever made to the people of Canada for the sins of former Liberal administrations.

The Liberal Party has now elected a Leader who leans decisively to the Right and has the most arrogant demeanor that we have witnessed on a Canadian politician in decades. Humility is a word that Liberals do NOT know.

Funny spin to the facts, but I guess if every other Liberal detractor is doing it why not you too, eh?

Reality is that Ignatieff offered Cauchon the riding. Cauchon turned him down. Ignatieff found another star candidate, one who is also fulfils his quite progressive commitment to field more women candidates. I am surprised so many self-proclaimed "progressives" oppose that. Then Cauchon changed his mind but Ignatieff had already committed to someone else, so Iggy got another riding for Cauchon.

Cauchon will be a winning Liberal candidate in the next election.

Not sure how having a double layered cake of progressivism - more women and Cauchon - and eating it too is so offensive to Dippers. Must have something to do with the low prospects of getting Mulclair re-elected.

Standard Blogging Tory response: don't like someone's comment? Make personal insults.

Did Dipper bloggers suddenly turn into Blogging Tories when Jack decided to do what he could to keep Harper as Prime Minister, or have you always been that way?

Seriously, leftdog. I put down some verifiable facts and my opinion about those. Why the juvenile response? Expecting it as I do, it doesn't bother me, but I'm just curious.

Lloyd Axworthy is very definitely on the left wing of the Liberal Party and has called the right wing of the party a political death wish.

Ted ... by bringing Mulcair into the discussion, I'd say it was you acting like a 'blogging Tory' not me. My post is clearly about the infighting that is going on amongst Liberals. I am sorry if you don't like it as a topic on my blog. My post has NOTHING to do with Mulcair, so for you to raise it is ridiculous ... hence my contention that a certain degree of 'liberal lemming' syndrome had been snuck into the comments here by you.

Mound of sound ... read my comments at the top of this page about 'abusive' comments. That's just bloody ridiculous what you wrote.

Leftdog:

They are gunning for Mulclair seat, leftdog. That's why they both want to run in Outremont. That is why there is, or rather was, a bit of a tempest in a teapot. It has nothing to do with Mulclair and everything to do with him. If the seat wasn't so vulnerable, then we would not be talking about Outremont in the first place, because we would not have so many stars eager to run there.

But feel free to cast personal insults instead of a dialog.

If you ask Stephen Taylor, I'm sure he'd accept you on his aggregator too.

'Mulcair' has NOTHING to do with the Liberal infighting over that nomintion. You are trying to infuse it into discussion on my post. It is intended by you to be a distraction from Liberals attacking each other. Nice try ... but no prize.

and if you want to talk about bloggers acitng like bloody Tories ... go look at your pal, Steve at Far & Wide where on his sidebar he has posted the staged protest photo of 3 Liberal staffers from the House of Commons holding up signs as a 'protest' against Layton.

Actually it was not intended as a distraction. And I regret a reference to him losing has your knickers in such a knot. It was just a single half sentence of a side comment.

And I would not have mentioned him if I knew you were going to use that reference as an excuse for venting personal insults and, more importantly and tellingly, use it to completely avoid and distract from the facts I laid out in my original comment.

Nice bait and switch. Yet another favoured Tory tactic.

The facts laid were: Ignatieff offered Cauchon the riding.

Don't tell me ... go tell your fellow Libs .. you know the ones who think that Iggy is acting like a dictator with his bully goon, Coderre as enforcer, (all of which is evident to anyone following this nasty split in Liberal ranks).

As for 'personal attacks on you' ... if being called a 'Liberal lemming' stings that much ... stop blindly defending Herr Iggy.

Postscript:
And all of your points about Iggy offering him the seat - his initial refusal - now he wants ... this all speaks to the complete LACK of democracy in the Liberal Party of Canada as headed by Iggy. Do the Liberals in the Riding have NO say? Do they merely go along with what the IGGY-Libs tell them?
And you call yourself a 'democratic' party ... sheeeeeesh!

Hell .. even Liberals are condemning Iggy's lack of 'democracy' ...

Thanks, Dawg. That helps.
