hi Saskboy! With apologies for being somewhat graphic, my last eye surgery took about 2 hours and the lens was removed to allow work at the back of the eye to reattach and fix the retina. A scleral buckle was also placed around the eyeball.
Without the lens, I am completely blind in the eye and am wearing an eyepatch much like a pirate. In 12-16 weeks, I will have another surgery to input a plastic lens (like they do for cataract surgery) and then will commence some vision rehab to see what vision is/can be recovered.
