Harper's Hockey Hoopla! Maybe we should remember what he has said about this great nation in the past ...

As Stephen Harper prepares to present himself as Canada's biggest 'fan' later today during the Olympic Hockey Gold medal game, maybe we should take a look at what he has said about this country in the past ... quotes that won't be reported by CTV anytime soon:

"Canada is a Northern European welfare state in the worst sense of the term, and very proud of it. Canadians make no connection between the fact that they are a Northern European welfare state and the fact that we have very low economic growth, a standard of living substantially lower than yours, a massive brain drain of young professionals to your country, and double the unemployment rate of the United States."
- Stephen Harper, then vice-president of the National Citizens Coalition, in a June 1997 Montreal meeting of the Council for National Policy, a right-wing American think tank.

"Canada appears content to become a second-tier socialistic country, boasting ever more loudly about its economy and social services to mask its second-rate status, led by a second-world strongman appropriately suited for the task."
- Stephen Harper in his article "It is time to seek a new relationship with Canada," December 12th, 2000.

"Your country [the USA], and particularly your conservative movement, is a light and an inspiration to people in this country and across the world."
-Stephen Harper, then vice-president of the National Citizens Coalition, in a June 1997 Montreal meeting of the Council for National Policy, a right-wing American think tank.

"A culture of defeat..."
- Stephen Harper, describing the Atlantic provinces, May 2001.

"In terms of the unemployed, of which we have over a million-and-a-half, don't feel particularly bad for many of these people. They don't feel bad about it themselves, as long as they're receiving generous social assistance and unemployment insurance."
-Stephen Harper, then vice-president of the National Citizens Coalition, in a June 1997 Montreal meeting of the Council for National Policy, a right-wing American think tank.

"What we clearly need is experimentation with market reforms and private delivery options [in health care]."
- Stephen Harper, then President of the NCC, 2001.

"We also support the exploration of alternative ways to deliver health care. Moving toward alternatives, including those provided by the private sector, is a natural development of our health care system."
- Stephen Harper, Toronto Star, October 2002.

Let's face it, Stephen Harper HATES Canada the way it is!
Go Canada Go!

Thanks for posting that Leftdog. I think it's especially important to keep printing that.

St-Stevie is just frightening.

I posted my concerns if Canada won the gold medal in hockey this afternoon. That St-Stevie would go back up in popularity.

No matter what he says today, he HATES Canada the way that it is and he wants to remake it into some bizarre Preston Manning - Fraser Institute right wing ideal. And they dare call the 'Left' ideologically driven! No one is more ideologically driven right now in Canada than the Right.

or worse yet...turn us into GW Bush era Americana. Yikes!

No, it's important to not only get that message out, it is important to take action or else, before we know it, he will get away with doing just that.

Hi Dawg

I'm rushing through to let you know that I have moved Politics Plus to http://www.politicsplus.org/blog

I have you in the blogroll there. Would you update me in yours?

USA!! ;-)

But the fact that even one Canadian would still vote for him is a pretty sad commentary on the state of our polity.

If the leader of the New Democrats or the Libs had EVER made derogatory remarks about Canada like Harper has, the Right wing would be going off the deep end. When their guy is exposed with a history of dissing Canada, they are silent .. that includes the MSM too of course.

But for any Conservative who is still confused as to why they have NOT won a majority and will not win a majority in the foreseeable future, I suggest it has to do with the idiot who leads you ... and who has shown nothing but disrespect for this great country.

Harper does not (nor never did) deserve the huge honour of being the Prime Minister of Canada.

I'm thinking Harper has put himself in the cellar of public disapproval and now is as much reviled (in most of Canada) as Mulroney was back in the '90s.

Please, Lord, let it be so!

Wishful thinking. Brian Lilley, a Harpercon newscaster on Harpercon news/talk radio just announced Ipsos Reid's latest numbers are that Stevie has jumped up to 37% and it is due to the olympic gold medals, particularly in hockey.

We're right back where we started.

Any ideas (if even possible) to reverse this?
