Canadians Elected A Record 76 Women to Parliament – Most Of Them NDP
"For the first time in Canada’s history, and exactly 90 years since the first female Member of Parliament strode into the green chamber, women make up a quarter of the 308 seats in the House of Commons.
That record high is nothing to sneeze at, advocates say – but it’s also nothing to be overly proud of. Canada remains 52nd in the world when it comes to female representation in political office, and it’s falling further behind as other countries take more aggressive measures to even out the gender balance."

Let's hope that the press doesn't demonize those that speak out and challenge the status quo like Kim Campbell, Belinda Stronach or Alexa McDonough. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there was plenty to disagree with Ms Stronach on substantive matters but the second that she challenged Stephen Harper, she was already labelled a rich-girl bimbo and in no time at all there were suggestions that she was Bill Clinton's new sex doll.
I'm glad Jack Layton didn't suffer too badly regarding the new allegation of a possible impropriety that may have taken place 15 years ago but I'm not sure the press wouldn't just double down on such allegations if it were directed at a women.
Ruth Ellen Brosseau is apparently the most terrible person in Canadian politics right now and the new session of Parliament hasn't even started...
I'm sorry, I have a problem with media coverage and tend to vent. Much better now!
But yeah, I'm glad to see greater representation from women and glad to see the NDP leading the way!
