I never met Mr. Layton and I am not an NDPer but I had developed a lot of respect for Mr. Layton during the last election. Despite his poor health he showed an extraordinary courage and tenacity and we should all take a lesson from him. His cane became a legend and shall remain so.

Moreover, first ever NDP became official opposition. That was an extraordinary achievement. It is too bad that he did not live long enough to lead the official opposition. I was saddened and shocked by death.

Since you call him your friend my sincere condolences to you.
