50th Anniversary of Medicare
Saskatchewan Led Battle For Public Health Care ... this is a Regina Leader-Post feature, however, it should be noted that in 1962, the Regina Leader-Post fought the implementation of Medicare editorially, with lies and fear mongering. It appears that after 50 years, the Regina L-P has quietly come on side with the sanity of public healthcare.
Thank goodness for the CCF and Tommy Douglas - it's most definitely something to celebrate tomorrow - Happy Canada Day!

The Leader-Post of course ignores its own role in supporting the doctors and opposing medicare.

Absolutely! They were players in the battle to implement publicly funded health care. The Regina Leader-Post has a long history of editorial opposition and sometimes, outright hostility, to New Democratic administrations. Douglas, Lloyd, Blakeney, Romanow, and Calvert. The Regina L-P could hardly be called 'friendly'. There were times when you couldn't even call it 'civil'.
When Conrad Black bought the 4 Saskatchewan dailies, it is rumoured that he boasted privately that he would make quick work of Roy Romanow. Black was gone LONG before the New Democrats were. And if you want to know how he treated the professionals who work at the Leader-Post .. well ... there are still journalists there who remember well.
