Younger Trudeau appears to distance himself from his father in Alberta
CALGARY - Justin Trudeau appeared
to distance himself from his famous father as he made Alberta the first
stop on his campaign to take over the federal Liberal party.
Trudeau
chose Calgary, home to the country's energy company boardrooms, to say
he would never use the wealth of the West to gain votes elsewhere.
He
said it is wrong to divide Canadians over natural resources.
It's
a particularly sensitive issue in a province where resentment still
burns over the introduction of the national energy program in the 1980s
by Pierre Trudeau, who was prime minister at the time. That was seen as a
grab of Alberta's natural resource wealth to keep prices artificially
low for the rest of the country.
"It
is wrong to use our natural wealth to divide Canadians against one
another," he said. "It was the wrong way to govern Canada in the past.
It is wrong today. And it will be wrong in the future."
He didn't mention his father by name during his speech.CP via 680news.com
... I told you that Justin has no choice but a hard turn right ...

Natural resources belong to all Canadians.

But the NEP was the right policy. If implemented Canada not Norway would have one of the largest if not the largest Sovereignty fund in the world.

Justin Trudeau .. likely next leader of the LPC just contradicted you and traditional Liberal thought on the NEP. He says that it wasn't the right policy. He has not explained why it wasn't the right policy in his opinion.
Many in the West have never agreed that it was the 'right' policy.
We'll have to wait for him to elaborate ...
This is a pretty big policy reversal from traditional Liberal held belief. :)
