British Anti-Monarchists Challenge BBC Policy That To Be 'Pro-British' You Must Be 'Pro-Monarchy'

campaigners in Britain are to stage a protest against the British
Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) pro-monarchy policies.
The demonstration, which is organized by Britain’s anti-monarchy campaign group, Republic, will be held outside the BBC Broadcasting House in London on Saturday May 11.
Republic stepped up its campaign against the BBC’s pro-royal coverage following the corporation’s announcement of a season of programming to mark the 60th anniversary of the British Queen's coronation.
“Now the BBC is putting together a schedule of programmes that is nothing more than promotional guff. This includes a clear and deliberate attempt to paint the monarchy in a modern light and to equate being pro-monarchy with being pro-British,” said Republic chief executive officer Graham Smith.
The campaign group also called for the corporation to stop promoting the monarchy.
Earlier in March, Republic challenged the BBC over its role to represent Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, as a hero through a new TV documentary series.
Moreover, the BBC faced censure last year for producing a “pro-monarchy propaganda” documentary to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.
