Vancouver is absolutely consumed by corporate greed what a shame the same thing is happening in Toronto. With a very developer friendly city council and builders toting bags of cash, one historic building after another here is being razed to make way for one more tall apartment house.
Two years ago an historic century old building that housed one of Vancouver's oldest and most notorious prohibition era nightclubs was sacrificed to make way for a 21 story condo tower with views of English Bay and seven figure starting prices.
In 2012 a bunch of us went to city hall and spoke out for three nights against another 22 story project being proposed for the corner of Comox and Broughton. After they patiently listened to us, Vision Vancouver rubber stamped the project despite it busting every development guideline in the West End plan.
It's too late to save Yaletown, it has become a glass and masonry corporatist nightmare. I'd hate to see historic West End follow suit, with towers blocking sight lines to the water and the sky, and where everyone but millionaires are denied a view.
