Bush Confirms There Is No Backup Strategy For Iraq

President George W. Bush told a group of governors that there is no backup plan for Iraq if his current 'surge' (escalation) does not work. Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff told the governors at the same meeting, that "Plan B is to make Plan A work."

This reminds me of an article I read on Havard's business program (which graduated Bush with an MBA). According to the article, Harvard teaches you to formulate a business plan and be relentless in sticking to it. Defend the original plan, no matter what. Now, most Harvard MBAs get out in the real world and realize that that doesn't always do the trick. They learn to adjust. But what if a Harvard MBA is given cushy jobs and free rides by his dad's friends. He never learns to adjust because he always has a soft landing, he never adds any nuance or pragmatism to his Harvard education. This sort of person would only ever have a single plan and only ever look to defending it.

How could there be a backup strategy, when there has never been a strategy?

Dan I like the observation - it makes me look at the 'why' original plan, no matter what." Is it because Bush believes that his policies are 100% correct? - or- is there any aspect of his statements last year, "God talks to me!" ... If Bush is a fundie and believes that we are in the end times of Leviticus .... then I am scared shitless!

TomCat, the same thing applies ... I mean his original policy on 'Iraq' was completely flawed ... the expectation that the Iraqi people would strew flowers before the liberating US Army... this is the kind of nonsense that has plagued this campaign from the begining.

Dawg, you're right. Bush's tactics for the invasion were excellent, but once we got to Baghdad there was no plan.
