Conservatives Would Bring Back Capital Punishment - If they could get away with it!!
The fact is that IF Harper had a majority in Parliament and could carry the vote, the death penalty may very well be reintroduced in Canada.
Forget all of the wrongfully accused who would have been executed even though they were innocent like David Milgaard, Guy Paul Morin, Romeo Phillion, Steven Truscotte and others.
Is this what Canadians want?

The only reason Harper is in office is that he was riding a crest of public acceptance while the Liberals were in a trough of acceptance.
That's because of the Advertising scandal.
Were that not the case, Dion could have been PM.
Looking at several CPC actions including the setting aside of two candidates and the invalidation of Bill Casey's status, the CPC is heading to that trough. Couple that with the budget that bypassed the Commons and you have a Kremlin-like leader(?) and his minions running the nation the way they see fit?
Had enough yet?

Damn...and I've been holding out hope that if Bush ceases dictatorial power of America next year that I would head off to Canada...But it looks like you guys are headed down the path of the Bushstappo as well.

I would support the capital punishment in cases where a fair trial has been had, and where the person is convicted of a capital crime beyond any reasonable doubt whatsoever. For a person like Paul Bernardo, caught on tape raping and murdering teenagers, there's no question he deserves swift death.

The Harper government position is inconsistent on asking for clemency. Just a few days before the government was actually following the usual course but then maybe Day had a vision over the weekend of a wrathful God or something.
Day can't even get things straight after his vision. In the house he said that Canada did not want convicted murderers sent back to Canada. No one asked for that just an appeal for clemency. Canada will not extradite anyone to face the death penalty elsewhere. It has nothing to do with a "fair" trial it has to do with opposition to the death penalty. Anyway if Day would bother to investigate he would find that there is considerable evidence that the death penalty in the US is influenced by race.
