There was mention on Jon Stewart's Daily Show that Edwards' withdrawal is meant to put support behind Obama and help defeat Clinton.I got the impression that Peggy Noonan seemed to agree with that.

I think you're right. I am surprised that he pulled out before Super Tuesday. Since he has, I think his support will split somewhat but I think the majority will go Obama.
