Casualties Of War - When Canadian Troops Accidentily Kill Children
Globe & Mail
War sucks. Big time. War is illogical, violent, primitive and allows little children in a car with their father to be shot through the head by men who have good intentions of fighting 'evil'.
Blogging Tory types will shrug and suggest it was the fault of the father for not adhering to signals to stop his car in the vicinity of nervous and gun shy Canadian troops.
Simple rural people, in a remote and unsophisticated country, living almost as if it is still the middle ages, who don't understand the English being shouted at them. Boom! Two little children, dead.
For what? .... oh well .... at least we remain rigid in our policy to NEVER speak to the Taliban .... we do NOT negotiate with 'terrorists'!
.... the Canadian military will give the family some money - and we can all get back to living our nice little Canadian lives.
POSTSCRIPT:
We don't really need to know the name of the little boy and the little girl, now dead.
We don't need to know what their favorite toys were or what they liked to play.
We don't need to know what their father was thinking when he saw soldiers waving their hands and yelling in some undecipherable language.
We don't need to know.

When the MSM puts these incidents on the front page, the war will end. Canadians will not accept it - but they need to know about it. Repeated front page coverage is required. We simply don't know what we are doing over there. Mr. Harper has made it so.

I heard a news commentator on a fairly right wing radio station here say (in response to the shooting by Canadian troops on the Afghan family)
.... "our troops must ensure their safety. In a case such as this where the offending car came too close, well it is better to be safe than sorry."
So little children are of NO consequence ...

Leftdog/Quimby....who ever you are.....do yourself a favour and go to the Regina Public Library and check out Christie Blatchford's book.... 15 Days. Maybe that will give you some education on what happens on the ground in Afganastan and you will be better informed before you post more outlandish comments about our troops in Afganistan.
The facts are, we are there, we are staying there for a while and all the Left-wing rethoric won't change those facts.
Say this slowly.....God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the WISDOM to know the difference!!!
It seems you lack WISDOM!

The Harper government *chose* to send our troops in, out, and around heavy combat areas via unsecure roads rather than to fly over them in helicopters.
Consequence: Our troops are scared shitless when driving those roads and have fired on, and killed, civilians - more than once.
Even the Manley reports says use helicopters... so you can avoid civilian travellers and mined roads.
The fault for today is Mr. Harper's.
Cheers,
Eugene Parks

Ron or whatever your name is ... go to your public library and read the history of the war in Vietnam - how insurgent conflicts generally are NOT won by traditional troops as was proven when the Viet Cong defeated the United States of America. War mongers who are okay with killing two year old and four year old kids for your demented political reasons ... don't get to post on my site!

Slowly? Or with three exclamation points?
In the late 1960's, anti-Vietnam War protesters were faced with a seemingly unchangeable situation. After demonstrating to the powers that were, the US withdrew and the wart ended. The dominoes didn't fall. Red China did not march in and take over the world.
Public opinion, in a democracy, has always been a precursor to change. Anybody with an ounce of knowledge and a half-ounce of wisdom would know that.
We should not be propping up Karzai's warlord-dominated, opium-fueled, prisoner-torturing Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. We're simply supporting one side in a civil war that was raging prior to 9/11. Taliban versus Taliban-lite.
