Karzai Offers To Protect Taliban Leader
KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan President Hamid Karzai pledged Sunday to provide security for the Taliban's reclusive leader Mullah Omar if he agrees to enter peace talks, and suggested that the United States and other Western countries could leave the country or oust him if they disagree. [...] “If I am removed in the cause of peace for Afghanistan by force by them, then I will be very happy,” Mr. Karzai said. “If they disagree, they can leave. But we are not in that stage yet.” Mullah Omar headed the government toppled by the U.S.-led invasion in 2001. Since then, he has been in hiding but is believed to be running the insurgency."

Ever since the former Liberal government got us tangled up in George Bush's mess in Afghanistan AND on the heels of Harper's ongoing total dishonesty in continuing Canada's military mission, it has been obvious to New Democrats that this is a war that cannot be won!
Canadians have endured the war mongering propaganda of former Canadian General Rick Hillier and the continuing dishonesty of our new top general, Walter Natynczyk.
Canada's New Democrats have been the only political party that has been spot on about the perils of the Afghanistan mission. We have pointed out that the once mighty Soviet Army was defeated in an earlier Afghan insurgency - why would we fare any better with a fraction of the troops that the Soviets employed? And yet, Canada's media have been just as vitriolic as the Tories and Libs in their attacks on Layton and the New Democrats or anyone else who has suggested that we attempt dialogue.
If one more Canadian is killed in Afghanistan .... Harper's Conservatives and those right leaning Liberals who defended our involvement in Afghanistan, will have their blood on their hands!
Enough is enough. Canada should get out of Afghanistan .... NOW!

Here here. This Imperial adventure has been wrong from the beginning. yah Karzai tells us to go if we want but he is gonna be loyal to Omar. If we called his bluff, which we should he would be hanging from a Kabul lamp post in 30 minutes. Let the Afghans work out their own freedom. It's the only way they can ever hope to be free.
