I think I might actually be in Harper's corner on this one, though maybe not for all of the same reasons. I don't think we need money from foreign dictatorships to "rebuild" our economy here - first we need to restructure our own economic order. We don't just need "rejuvenating" with fresh money, we need to restructure the economy so it's based on local production and consumption rather than fantastic manipulation of credit by financial institutions.
On the other hand, I have a similarly low opinion of many of our resource companies, especially in petroleum and mining.

China has one of the most appalling human-rights records in the world. Their current government is directly descended from Mao's regime, which was responsible for the deaths of perhaps tens of millions of Chinese during the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution.
I don't mind if we're not all lovey-dovey with these murderous sons of bitches.
