Harper Names Nine New Tory Porkers To Senate
"As everyone in this room knows, it has become a rite of passage for aspiring leaders and prime ministers to promise Senate reform – on their way to the top. But once they are elected, Senate reform quickly falls to the bottom of the Government’s agenda. Nothing ever gets done."
Stephen Harper, 2006
UPDATE:
Jacques Demers, a former Montreal Canadiens hockey coach and former journalist Linda Frum to the Senate. Frum now uses her married name, Sokolowski.
The other appointees are Doug Finley, who managed Harper's election campaigns; Carolyn Stewart-Olsen, his press secretary since 2000; Don Plett, Conservative Party president, and Judith Siedeman, a Montrealer and Conservative Party organizer. Harper also named Montrealer Claude Carignan, former Acadia University president Kelvin Ogilvie, and Nunavut politician Dennis Patterson to the Senate.
