Canadian Judge Speaks Bluntly About 'Insanity' Of Canada's Pot Laws
Justice Elliot Allen
(Ontario Judge)
Kudos to Mister Justice Elliott Allen who spoke openly and bluntly about the complete failure of Canadian drug policy. Using the justice system to administer jail time for marijuana possession and cultivation simply is not a deterrent in society at large.
Justice Allen questioned why, when a form of sentencing "doesn't work," he would try it again and again. "Isn't that a form of insanity?" he asked.
Justice Allen pointed out the complete failure of deterrent in the United States where a huge number of people are serving life sentences without parole for growing or trafficking in moderate amounts of marijuana.
All society is really doing by prohibiting the production and consumption of marijuana is "giving the Hells Angels several billion dollars worth of income every year," Allen said.
