What Is It With American Politicians And 'Corndogs'?
There seems to be some unwritten rule that American politicians must be photographed eating a corndog. To a non-American, I have to wonder what this ritual is all about.
Perhaps it is a combination of two separate 'American' political messages:
1) The 'hotdog' is truly an American cultural icon
2) The American rural Midwest and South is all about 'corn' as an agricultural product - highly subsidized.
Put the two together and you have the definitive American political-culinary expression .. a corndog. Bon appetite.
-National Corndog Day! ... love the logo!
Could just be an expression of their image as well

The candidates have to play the stupid game of suck on a corndog because their handlers are telling them the voters want to elect someone they could have a beer with. That is stupid of course, because the guys I have beer with are basically idiots, I like them because they are idiots and we could be idiots together, the whole purpose of having beer with buddies. But a leader should be smarter than me, have big ideas and take charge in rough times, not a beer swilling corn dog eating idiot. You get the country you vote for. That is another misconception politicians and media play upon, the idea that the government is something "other" out of our control doing things like a monster creeping out of dark oily liquidy substance. No the government is "us" we are the government we vote for fools we get fools and the country follows along, we vote for intellectuals then the whole country rises with that intellectual but people with money and power don't want us to know we could do that.

I don't think that it's a coincidence that it's so darn... phallic. There's something about American politics and fellatio. Just sayin...
