Friends of RCMP Commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli are speculating that he is under a gag order from the Harper Conservative government! While Mr. Zaccardelli has recently been the victim of much criticism for the handling of the Arar affair, those close to him believe the Federal government will not allow him to speak openly on the matter.
To those who watch the Harper government closely, I pose this question: 'Are you surprised?' Clearly, our Conservative masters in Ottawa seem uncomfortable with an apology to Mr. Arar.

What purpose would it serve the Cons to gag the Commish??

There are a couple of reasons. One might be they are nervous about lawsuits and are not anxious to give any acknowldegement of wrong doing by the RCMP.
Another reason could be that a Conservative Government (which just pledged billions to the RCMP at an annoucment in Regina) does not want to stain the forces reputation.
There are lots of reasons why the Cons might gag the Commish.
OR the reason may be that the Tories have NO intention of apologizing to someone who has been SO critical of how the Feds have handled this mess.
AT the time of 911, the RCMP screwed up, claimed Arar was an jihadist, gave him up to the Americans who sent him to Syria for some old fashioned 'torture' and it is such a bloody mess, the prime Minister's office hasn't figured the lines out yet - hence they don't want the commish talking to the media.
