Harper's Plan for Religion Protection Act UNDER FIRE
News of the proposed Defence of Religions Act has come under immediate fire across Canada today, even from some Tories.
Conservative MP Garth Turner said a law like this could be the “slippery slope” toward protecting bigotry and intolerance in statute. Another Tory MP, Art Hanger said Charter protections of religious freedom are “cast in stone,” so any new law is probably unnecessary.
Liberal MPs attacked the idea as a gimmick that appeals to the religious right wing of the Conservative base.
Harper immediately began to back away from the story saying that he has no plans to implement such legislation. (Yeah .... right)!
