Feds Want To Fire Chair of Canadian Wheat Board
WINNIPEG (CP) - The federal government has threatened to fire the president of the Canadian Wheat Board for not toeing the Conservative line on ending the board's monopoly.In a tersely worded fax to Adrian Measner on Wednesday, Agriculture Minister Chuck Strahl says he is "contemplating recommending a change" to the board's government-appointed positions, "notably a recommendation that your appointment as president be terminated." Strahl offered no explanation in the two-sentence letter, but offered Measner a chance to respond by Dec. 14.
