Bush Appoints A Surgeon General Who Will "Cure" Gays?
Here are a few points to remember about his appointee, James W. Holsinger:
– Holsinger founded Hope Springs Community Church, which “ministers to people who no longer wish to be gay or lesbian.” Holsinger said that he sees homosexuality as “an issue not of orientation but of lifestyle.” [Lexington Herald-Leader, 6/1/07]
– In serving on the United Methodist Judicial Council — the “court” that resolves “disputes involving church doctrine and policies in the nation’s second-largest Protestant denomination” — Holsinger “opposed a decision to allow a practicing lesbian to be an associate pastor, and he supported a pastor who would not permit an openly gay man to join the church.” [Lexington Herald-Leader, 6/1/07]
– In the early 1990s, Holsinger resigned from the United Methodist Church’s Committee to Study Homosexuality “because he believed the committee ‘would follow liberal lines.’” He also warned “that acceptance of homosexuality would drive away millions of churchgoers.” [Arkansas Democrat Gazette ,6/24/91]

It's really too bad Bush could not find a preacher who could cure retardation.

It should be a simple matter of 'laying on hands' bringing down the 'holy ghost' - a couple of 'hallalelujahs' - and his brain should function a little better!!!

Terrifying stuff: the whole ex-gay thing (and ex-ex-gay thing)in the States has fascinated me for a while.
Here is a quote from Wayne Besen:
"Holsinger is an ideologue whose medical views on gay and lesbian people resemble sorcery more than sound science"

I'm hoping for a lot of public backlash - this is just so dumb and so typical. I would like to see Bush begin to be treated like the lame duck he is - and is more so going to be.

Frankly, I don't think there's much there above the cerebellum that manages the unthinking autonomous bits...
