The HarperIndex.ca is an online information service dedicated to analyzing the background and the persuasion tactics of Canada's Conservative minority government.
They have a great story on the lengths that Harper and the Conservative Party are going to in order to fix the nomination of Rob Anders MP.
Fixing Rob Anders Nomination
Unbelievable and this a govt that says it wants to bring transparency, accountability, integrity back to govt. Too weird.
Oh well, its their nickle, well millions of nickles.

There has to be a reason why Anders is so 'important' to Harper. More then just loyalty. That's the mystery that needs solving.

I agree, leftdog. One thing Harper's proven over his tenure is that he's a strategist. So for someone like him to put the party in the dangerous position of 'not sticking to the grassroots' and doubling back, there has to be one heck of a reason for it.

In a word - connections.
Remember, Anders came into Canadian politics after a stint as a paid heckler for the Rethugs in the states.
Additionally, he has close ties to Leadership U. (a NeoCon finishing school), and he's well connected to the extreme religious right-wing in Canada. (Groups like CCC, CFAC and Campaign Life)
These are all groups to whom Harper is beholden, and I suspect strongly they like Anders because he'll say what they're thinking.

That is some good research. Thanks! This is the first I have heard of Leadership U.
