Pssst - Mr. Harper .... China Is Canada's Second Largest Trading Partner!
"Canada’s total merchandise trade with China has soared in the last decade, reaching $42.1 billion in 2006 and accounting for 5.0% of Canada's world trade.1 In 1997, China was Canada’s fourth largest trading partner with total merchandise trade of $8.7 billion. By 2003, the country had emerged as Canada’s second largest trading partner surpassing the U.K. and Japan.2 Imports from China were five times higher in 2006 than in 1997 while exports to the country tripled." And you think this is a good thing?
You wouldn't even be able to make this post(a post critical of the activity of the government) in china*! As we feed their economy, we also feed their military and political dominance in the region and around the world. They have huge problems and our trade with them allows them to essentially maintain and export those problems.
Granted, any lessening of trade with china has to be weighed with the alternatives(Neither Russia nor the USA seems to be doing much better than china these days) --- but still.
*Assuming that you had any justification for doing so. They allow plenty of dissent...as long as the dissenters aren't on to anything important to the CCP rule.
