FLASHBACK: March 21, 1983 - President Ronald Reagan Proclaims 'Afghanistan Day' - Praises The Taliban
Proclamation 5034—Afghanistan Day, 1983
By the President of the United States of America, 21 March 1983
"The tragedy of Afghanistan continues as the valiant and courageous Afghan freedom fighters [The Taliban] persevere in standing up against the brutal power of the Soviet invasion and occupation."
President Ronald Reagan simply loved the Taliban in 1983!
He loved them so much that the USA flooded them with as many weapons and ammunition as they could handle ... (hoping they'd shoot them at the Soviet Union). However, things didn't quite work out the way the Republican government wanted them to!
ONE LAST THOUGHT:
It is entirely possible that Canadian soldiers have been killed by weapons that were given to the Taliban by the US Republican government of Ronald Reagan!
OMG!

Looks like America has had a collective amnesia about Reagan and the Taliban.
How convenient!
I'd love to see the mainstream press remind the rest of America about this little fact/foible.

They won't!
This is kinda like the George Orwell novel '1984' .. the home nation was at war with one country one day and friends with them the other. All references to previous friendships or conflicts were purged from the public record.

Leftdog, another excellent post.
I just want to point out that Saddam of Iraq was a CIA man and lived in exile in Egypt for a while. I believe it was with the help of CIA that he was installed as the president of Iraq. Then of course Reagan administration gave billions to Saddam in weapons and other help to invade Iran (to get even on US hostage issue) - a war which lasted for a decade and hundreds of thousands dead on both sides. Rest of the story you know and I need not repeat.
