Canada's New Government Highlights the Need to Exercise Caution During Garage Sale Season

For immediate release
OTTAWA - At this time of year, Health Canada reminds Canadians that along with the warmer weather comes garage sale season. This is not only a great time for bargains, but also a time to exercise caution both as a buyer and as a seller. Caution is required to protect the safety of consumers who may use second-hand products. In Canada, the safety laws that apply to the sale of new products also apply to the sale of used items. Under these laws, it is illegal to import, sell, or even give away products that do not meet the requirements of the Hazardous Products Act (HPA).

Government of Canada News Release
So much for the conventional wisdom, that the government has run out of things to talk about.

When the Tories are in opposition (which is how the universe is intended to be), they go to great length to mock this type of communication. They need a little taste of their own medicine!

I wish they would have warned the public about used and defective products before the election.
Perhaps people would have been more cautious about buying a used, cobbled together party made of broken scraps of previously worn out partys.

I would laugh except our government is equally silly about garage sales.
In most cities you have to purchase a permit to have a garage sale or risk having it shut down by the police. People are limited to no more than two garage sales per year because someone figured out that poor people were buying items from these sales to resell at their own garage sales to generate a little bit of income. Can't have that now can we.

What ever happened to putting all of your junk out and simply selling it??
