France urges U.S. treat Canadian Guantanamo Detainee Omar Khadr As 'Child Soldier'
Entering the story is the very civilized nation of France.
"Pascale Andreani, a spokeswoman for the French Foreign Ministry, said Khadr must be given special treatment because he was a minor at the time. She said France considers "all children associated with an armed conflict...should be treated accordingly. As a minor at the time of the events, Mr. Khadr must be given special treatment - a point on which there is a universal consensus," Andreani said. Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said Canada won't intervene in Khadr's trial."

It's a pretty sad indictment of our government that another country, France, has to step up to the plate to defend a Canadian citizen. If I recall, the UK has also done so previously wrt Omar Khadr.
Shame on Harper&co.

Does this mean Sarkozy, despite being the conservative choice of France, is not as ...cozy...with Bush as Harper is? Or with Harper for that matter?
