47 million Americans Have No Health Insurance - Up 5%

WASHINGTON -- A record 47 million Americans did not have health insurance last year, while the percentage of children without insurance rose for a second consecutive year, according to US Census Bureau data released yesterday. [...]

The census data found that, compared with 2005, the number of uninsured Americans rose 5 percent last year to 47 million, due in large part to cutbacks in employer-sponsored health coverage. It also found that 11.7 percent of US children under 18 lacked health insurance, compared with 10.9 percent in 2005.

Since there's no "big oil" component to health care, then there's no concern for those people. If it doesn't affect KBR, Halliburton, Amerada Hess etc., it doesn't count.

I get a sense that health care could play a larger role in the 08 Presidential race then it has ever before. In the incessant political chatter of the blogosphere I seem to hear snippets related to this issue. Any thoughts david??

I quite agree with your observation. Notice that all the talk is coming from the DEMOCRATIC side of the fence. The GOP is in such tatters, they may not be of much significance for at least 10 years.

That's Bush's squandered legacy for you.

Health care, the restoration of civil rights and the reining in of executive privilege are three wedge issues the Democrats will use to win over a shattered Christian right.

Watch also, the decline in evangelical influence in daily life.

Back to good old times of the Kennedy '60s and the Clinton '90s.

Man I sure hope so. This little right wing experiment we are going thru with Bush in Washington and Harper in Ottawa is taxing on the nerves and sensibilities. We need to bring this era of low intellect and faulty logic to an end.

You all should hear the fake horror stories about Canadian health care people talk about here.
